Denny Schrock (1993, 2002 and 2015 Division III Coach of the Year) is the Head Coach of the Chippewa High School girl's basketball program in Doylestown, Ohio. In his initial tenure at the school, from 1979-2003, Coach Schrock accumulated 465 wins and only 84 losses. From 1990-2002, Coach Schrock and the Lady Chipps won 13 consecutive WCAL titles. In the 1990s, the Lady Chipps won 103 consecutive WCAL games. Doylestown Chippewa has set the standard for all Wayne County girl's basketball programs. After a 2-year stint at Jackson High School and a 5-year hiatus to watch his children play collegiate sports, Coach Schrock decided to get back to doing what he loves and does best: teaching and coaching basketball. "Denny is obviously a legend in Chippewa basketball, but what's more is that he has a great passion to be a coach, and to be a coach at Doylestown," said a former Chippewa athletic director.
"He wants to give back to the program he built. A lot of these girls who are coming through the program now are the daughters of the girls he coached back in the '80s and '90s," the AD continued." So, he is going to get that second generation going through. It's kind of neat when moms are telling their daughters, 'This is the guy I played for and this is what we did.' That builds excitement within the program and community." After five seasons since Coach Denny Schrock's return, the Lady Chipps boast a 102-22 record. This includes a #1 state ranking (2015 AP state poll champion), three WCAL titles, three Sectional titles, two District titles and a Regional title.
This website will follow the progress of Coach Schrock and the Lady Chipps, while keeping the community of Doylestown updated and involved in the success of the program. "When I was coaching, people used to come up to me and say, 'Denny, you really understand the Xs and Os of the game.' But every coach understands Xs and Os. So that's not a big deal. I always thought that my strength was understanding the girls and their personalities and what it took to get them to respond to you and play for you and do what you needed them to do."
"It is pretty humbling to look back," Schrock said. "For me to even be the coach for that many games is interesting. To think back about all the great athletes I was able to coach, the assistant coaches that were on my staff and the friendships I have acquired from the players and their parents is special. It signifies that yes, I am old, and it also shows how many lives I have been able to touch. That is really cool to think about."
